Russell Tytler and Vaughan Prain recently argued the misleading nature of the debate between direct and inquiry instruction.
“Advocates of inquiry learning claim their approach is more successful, meets the learning demands of this century, and is preferred by students. Yet direct instruction still dominates as a teaching approach, particularly in secondary school. This century-old question is getting another heated re-run. Influential policy forces claim that our students are dropping in global league”.
